How We Resolve Back Pain and Sciatica

Back Pain is the leading cause of disability and morbidity in The United States.

It doesn’t have to be.

While pain stemming from the lower back can be intense, debilitating and persistent, serious lower back injuries requiring surgery are rare. At Summit, our aim isn’t just to resolve the pain but to go far beyond resolution and prevent recurrence in the future. At Summit, out 1:1 approach ensures you’re in the best hands.

Comprehensive Evaluation

Lower back pain can arise from many different causes, and an effective treatment plan always begins with a thorough, comprehensive evaluation. At Summit, we start with the most important part—your story. Understanding your experience provides crucial insights into the root of your pain. From there, we conduct movement assessments, hands-on examination techniques, and specialized testing to identify the exact cause of your discomfort.

Manual Therapy

Manual therapy refers to a mixture of different hands-on techniques we use to decrease pain. We use soft tissue massage, joint mobilizations, dry needling, spinal manipulation and, at times, cupping. Different techniques work best for different people and different injuries but they all aim to decrease pain, improve movement and decrease tension to help you get back to feeling like you again.

Lower Back Mobility

Spinal mobility is essential for both everyday activities and athletic performance. When pain is present, muscle tightness and neurological tension can often restrict movement, leading to impaired mobility. Restoring mobility is a key part of regaining pain-free movement, which is necessary before progressing to higher-level activities. At Summit, we use a combination of gentle movement, hands-on techniques, and dry needling to restore mobility in the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine, ensuring you can move freely and without pain.

Coordination & Control Through Core Movements

Your core (which includes your lower back) is essential in all of your basic movements: squatting, hinging, rotations, pushing, pulling and carrying. Once your pain is reduced and your mobility is back, it’s time to get back to reclaiming your ability to move pain-free.

Performance & Preventing Recurrence

Once you’re able to move pain-free and you’re back to your prior self, it’s time to build you back better. Your physical therapist will work with you to create a comprehensive program that addresses your specific weaknesses to prevent future recurrence.

Your body, your goals and your journey are all unique.
